Had a cheap one, if you tested a compressor that was ok, it used to charge up the windings like a capacitor and i'd get a shock when i put the wires back on, i think the more expensive meters discharge and voltage after testing. Got a Megger now and happy with it.

Sound, tbh I'm tryin to get my gaffer to get me a decent 1, cheaper than blowing £600 inverter pcbs if my ****ty meter doesn't work correctly

your meant to test inverter pcbs with an analogue meter- £15 quid at maplins, to megger a pot you disconnect the leads to the inverter

Yeah, I meant if my multimeter says the pots ok n I change just the pcb them boom £600 gone!
I've got an inverter checker, but yet to see it light up as all the pcbs must've been goosed ;)

Got a cheap one myself from Ebay. An RS badged model which looked much like my old Megger.
£34, seems to works alright and came with new leads!

Jon's meter on you tube is the daddy. Got one on my wish list but don't expect to get it anytime soon, kids need new shoes for starters!

dat my bad boy- 250,500,1000v also has a lock function so you can continuously zap something or someone, remember trying to zap a plumber and the weirdo could hold the leads no problems - andy get the posh megger- your kids will still hate you either if u get em nike air max or flip flops! haha

This meter u mentioned at maplin, can u get the probes in to test thermistors?

you can file the ends down to get them on the back of the plug- the only way you get them down the actual pins is to wrap a paperclip around the test leads and tape it- i can bodge with the best of em

make sure their marked up correctly- or only use em for testing sensor resistance- cant be too careful with some jap stuff:p
