but we have a U7 flashing on a MHI VRF. Is this something to do with the addressing as I 'fink' U7 means Unit 7 and the flashing means it's lost comms with the outdoor or something??

Not sure about the U7 code? But look on page 40 and it mentions I/U ?? (Indoor Unit Number)

u-07 is indoor unit no 7 fault, check limit switch on the filter door, all fault codes are e numbers, had a triple system alarming on e01, checked outdoor unit, 240v on cond terminals ok turned out the some lanky git switched off 2 indoor spurs- units 12 ft up!!!- reset outdoor power and alarm cleared

press check button on controller, push down to highlight error data, select number 7 unit to see the fault

The only reference to 3x red light flashes I could find is on page 14 of the manual (link in post #2)
