View Full Version : Working out energy consumption

Hello,

My client has some really old banger of a chiller that every year needs so many thousand pounds worth of work done to it. Components keeps failing, faults keep getting thrown up, and there has been arguably no maintenance carried out on it (inside where the coils and heat exchanger are it looks like beetlejuices house).

Basically, our client is pretty stubborn, and all engineer recommendations seem to get ignored, so I'm looking to put together a report, detailing the energy consumption of the current chiller, compared with the new energy efficient bad boys that are available.

....so how do I do it......all the nameplate stickers on the chiller are long gone. I'm assuming I would need to look into the electricity (in. kW) both compressors and all the fan motors consume, compare that with the cooling capacity of the chiller, and there I have my efficiency ratio.....then compare to new chillers. Then I can turn all this consumed energy into financial figures by looking at the local energy tarrifs. yay/nay?

Any help would be great guys

Cheers,

Halfcan.

.

There are data logging devices that you can fit to measure
all the things you suggest but they cost and if this is just
a one off then it would not be cost effective.

Something like this.

The only other way is the hard way, add it all up and do the maths
but don't be too surprised if the customer still stubbornly refuses
to listen.

Sometimes there's no telling some people. So if you do this, will you
be charging him for your efforts because you might put a week of work
into it only for him to ignore you?

if it is any use, I own and use a portable ClimaCheck and have done for around 4 years. I have carried out multiple remote assessments and can offer some advice about the ClimaCheck if required. We also have around 20 chillers with fixed climachecks running which we monitor remotely.

Thanks
