Looking for advice!

Dear All

I'm currently in the process of leaving the army after 24 years service within communications.

I'm looking to start a new career with the air conditioning and refrigeration industry
Just trying to get together as much information as possible on courses, qualifications required and who's the best training providers.

Pretty much a start point, so please go easy on me it's like I'm back starting all over again..... Oh I am!

Any assistance welcome, information greatly received

What advise has the Army given you?

Will you be given an allowance to use for training?

There is more than one way this could be done.

One way is you use the money to pay for a few short courses with a training
provider and they will give you the refrigeration / airconditioning, electrical
and F-gas qualifications.

Probably over 2 to 3 weeks of very intense training and assessment.
You then have the minimum qualification to work legally in the industry.

You then need a job or experience. This is not easy and you will have
to beg, borrow, steal time from companies who are prepared to let
you get experience with them. You might have to do this for free!!!

With the qualifications and the experience you then work at gaining confidence
to be on your own and eventually you are left alone to do the work.

The other way is to get a job in an associated trade like electrical, building,
plumbing, handyman or some other such trade and then put yourself
through college and do a full NVQ over 2 to 3 years. You can still offer
yourself out and get work experience and then hopefully if you annoy
enough people they will get so fed up with you, that they offer you a job just
to shut you up :D

Both time commitment heavy and nether will guarantee you a job in the end
but it is something you will have to do, if you don't have an uncle in the trade
who can give you a job tomorrow.

Thanks for getting back to me

Yes the Military will cough up some funding, resettlement grants and enhanced learning credits
Currently looking at a number of training providers 13/15 day courses
Don't mind working for free in order to gain experience......

Also looking at introduction to electrical installation

Everything costs but I have grants and would like to spend them wisely. I will hand add from my own pocket, Again i don't mind doing so but I would like to ensure I'm getting the best training, best provider and value for money!

I will start asking around local companies, I can be a pain in the ass when I need to be.
If so I will start camping out on their door.........

Sorry mate no uncle in the trade, so on my own with assistance from you guys

Polar pumps, 15 day basic refrigeration air con electrical cse

Business edge, 13 days service leave refrigeration air con, heat pumps and electrics

Has anyone experienced, or know of the best provider?

Pete at Polar pumps will sort you out.

I know Polar Pumps personally and they are as good as it gets.

I know of the other companies and can't say anything against them
but I have not had personal dealings with them.

The best advice is to call the centers that you have listed and speak to them and decide from what you want and what they can provide. there are many training providers in the UK, some better than others as prevoius posts suggest
