Can someone explain to me how exactly a shunt reactor works and what is a common cause of failure on Shunt reactors.

I don't understand how this relates to refrigeration, I've only seen shunt reactors used on HV/MV power networks on mines where the load can vary greatly and very quickly. I've never worked hands on with one but I was working to maintain the bank of fans on the oil cooler sometimes. Maybe I'm not understanding the thing you are asking about because I haven't heard about one on low voltage supplies?
