What is Cold Accumulator in Freezer

Hi guys,

Got a new Zanussi integrated fridge freezer fitted today.

There are 2 plastic things in the freezer compartment called as Cold Accumulators. What are these? Can I safely keep it out without causing any problems?

The manual says they are used to keep food cold in case of a power failure which hardly happens here. So is that the only function? Or does it help in some kind of energy saving?

I am happy to keep it in if energy saving, power saving, etc else no real use.

They are eutectic bricks and I would leave them in the fridge as they do give you some energy saving. They store energy when fridge is not being opened a lot and release this stored energy when you are opening the fridge.

But as install says they are really handy for chucking in your cooler box for a "road trip"

of the food.
Removal of this unit will increase the capacity of the
