Hello

As the title says, I'm wondering how small it is possible to make an double acting cylinder, and what capacity you might be able to get out of it :-)

Any suggestions?

.

A compound compressor?

One where one or more pistons (cylinders) pump
into another piston (cylinder).

If that is what you mean then they can be as small
as a domestic compressor, you just need a comp with
two or three pistons on one crank. You then need to
interconnect the low stage pistons into the high side.

I have a domestic comp stripped down on my bench and
all the suction / discharge valves are accessible, so it is
just a mater of doing the engineering to convert it.

Temperature, pressure and oil distribution could be a problem though.

You might need to pump the oil under pressure because gravity feed
will always force the oil to the low side of the system and therefore
the bearings on the high side might dry out???

Oil is the only problem I see.
