A little bit of recent gossip at the wholesalers automated coffee dispenser (Avoid any who charge:o) had the birdies twittering about a proposed merger between the different service divisions at Johnson Controls UK.

Of course if the rumours are true (smoke and Fire!) the expected statement will be simplified services, one stop shop blah blah blah!!! We heard this from Grenco, Trane etc.
I still hear about split engineers sent to large industrial ammonia plants! and Trane refrigeration engineers going to service air compressors (Not that they should not be perfectly capable of these tasks)

My personal opinion though when walking onto a large site that has been riddled with small Dx plant to provide the cooling that there is a huge gap in the understanding of why this is not the best solution!! The lack of large plant engineers will in the long run be to the detriment of everyone.

I would be interested to hear some of the members views and if there is any substantiation to the twitterings?

I don't know about the gossip mill, but I've just had dealings with Johnson Controls as I needed a replacement leaving water sensor for a York chiller.
Rang them up and they said visit our web site and fill out a form. I only want a sensor says I. Can you make it quick as well as the chiller is off line without the sensor and the customer is not best pleased.

Fill out the form then and we'll deal with it.

Fills out the form. Gets an email a couple of days later saying that they had got the form and I would receive a quote by email shortly.

4 days later the email arrives. So I rings up and says can I order it please and pay by card. Send us an email accepting the quote first says they.

You can see how this is going......

3 and a half weeks later the sensor arrives from Germany by courier at a cost of £59.46

Hope things get better after the merger....but I doubt it. :(

Frank

If ever you need sensors let me know, tend to get them a bit quicker here:)

Hookster, could be some truth to them mutterings, they seem to be going the facility management route, one stop shop?

according to a well oiled part of the original york [not jci fm] machinery

johnsons are about to destroy the business even more by starting more redundancies

the survivors will be those that can change a light bulb, whilst fixing the a/c & large tonnage chiller simultaneously, along with cleaning the windows and polishing the floor before exiting the building

I do hope for the sake of all from the york chiller/industrial sectors this is just talk

but knowing johnsons it will be fine as any a/c maintenance guru can keep chillers running ok with zero training !

Hi Chillerman, its mchillerman here.

Been around the block for many a year, but need some jelp with this one.

Do you have the manuals for the YLEA 235 & 255 chillers, and of course passwords please.
