After 25 years of NH3 systems I am now installing and servicing residential HVAC systems. I am in need of advice from anyone who has converted a R-22 system(1.5 to 3.5 ton) to R-438a. The wholesalers all say it works great but they sell the stuff. An unbiased opinion on the subject would very helpful.

Attached is a report on the Performance of R-438A in R-22 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems. It is kind of a dry read but the information is informative.

Hi we did three now and they all worked ok but compressor went on 2nd unit after 2 months nothing to do with the change over. Went due to age . That's the main think to think of must R22 units are now around 15 years old , and spares are getting hard on some models to get . I think it best just to change the hole system.
