Hi there,

I bought an AEG A72900GNW0 a little over a year ago, for the past month i noticed things didn't seem as cold. I tried to ignore it but then the milk started going off after just a couple of days in there. So i bought a thermometer, put it in a mug of water and put that in the fridge.

Over the past week i have kept an eye on it, and although the fridge is set to 5c it averages no cooler than 13c, and has been down to 10c at a minimum from what i can see.

I have triple checked the door seals using paper etc all around and cannot see any problems, i have also changed the front level with the feet so the front is higher up (and so there isnt as much "pull" on the door which apparently helps it seal better?).

I have tried switching it off for 24hours and letting it completely defrost, then turning back on again but same problem.

The only thing i can see that i hadn't noticed before is a very small amount of ice on the back wall (about 3/4mm wide by 2 inches long roughly).

Can anyone help? I have tried phoning AEG every day for the past week and am just on hold for 40 minutes until i get cut off! I believe i am fairly technically minded so am happy to replace parts etc if needs be.

Thank you for any help.

Thanks for your responses guys- in order:

There isn't a freezer, its a standalone full height fridge but it does have a fan at the top- how can I test it? Or the defrost heater?

Loads of water went in to the drip tray when I defrosted it was full.

I started monitoring it about a year and three months after I bought it so it was older than a year when it broke, I registered with AEG for the five year warranty but they aren't being very helpful at the moment so was hoping to find out if there is anything I can check or replace myself...

Is the fan at the top going round?

push the door switch in to power up the fan

Annoyingly there doesn't seem to be one! I was guessing maybe its done by a sensor or something rather than the old push button stylee...any other way to test it or make the fridge think the door is closed?

reed switch inside the casing- run a magnet round the casing- usually the top- as soon as inside light has gone out- youve found it

If you keep it shut for a few minutes open it quickly and look it should be slowing down but you know it's ran. If not the fan is faulty or the fan switch this would cause your ice build up and in turn high temperature will occur.

Fan seems ok, did as above and just quickly opened door..fan was spinning down so that seems ok.

Is there anything else that I can check?

condenser coil at the back is clear of dust, condenser fan spins

Condenser coil is clean as a whistle, no fan. Only slightly strange thing is the pipe running from the compressor to condenser is hot for about 12 inches after the compressor then gets colder for 2 inches but the entire rest of the pipe to the condenser and the condenser itself does not feel warm at all?
