hi
i checked heatpump window type ac
its 2 ton
there is thin tube connecting beween the exit of the capillary tube and compressor bottom
what its utility
for oil return
or cooling compressor
or what

I'd wager to cool the compressor giving where you are! oil will go with the refrigerent so normaly a dedicated return is not needed

I would agree with The MG Pony. Attached is a pic. It shows a reciprocating hermetic with the same oil cooling line.

The oil cooling is not the same. The diag above will have an in/out circuit. His picture shows a simple refrigerant injection into the compressor body to aid cooling.

I realize were talking about 2 different compressors. That picture is to show him that some hermetic compressors have oil cooling. Are you suggesting that his compressor is muilti-stage?

No not multistage, it is just a very cheap, yet reliable way to cool a rotary piston compressor, you rob 600btu/h from the cooling capacity and shunt it to the low side shell to cool the compressor.

Mind you, I feel sorry for that compressor.

Have you noticed the marks half way up the casing where it has been beaten by a blunt object?

It's not an oil cooling line as MG said and you agreed with...And where have I suggested it's a 2 stage compressor...???

I need to learn Canadian ...

ok
what happen if i removed the that line
somebody here said they removed it
and compressor get hot then overloaded

Probable liquid injection discharge cooling for a scroll on a low temp application

if you remove it, the compressor will cook and die in all probabilities

now im confused
what is the utility
cooling or oil return or what

draw it as it would appear in a vapor compression diagram and then you can work it out...

Wow RBartlett, interesting

Its job is to cool the compressor by shunting a small amount of liquid to the suction/discharge of the compressor! with out this it will over heat and die due to the hi ambient temps!
