my friend has a large chest freezer using the above compressor, which has failed. Due to the high cost of identical replacement, is there a cheaper alternative compressor that will do the job....please

Agreed, once the comp needs replacing generally cost wise a new or second hand one is most economical option.

kooltech do tecumseh/kirby pots- just check height and stubb positions- usually 1/2 the price of a danfoss

Are you able/qualified to carry out the comp change yourself or is that cost going on top of the compressor price?
