Management does not operate our building A/C between roughly 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., nor on weekends. We have used spot coolers to keep a small server room cool but they are unreliable and we are looking at a mini-split. The contractors have proposed a wide range of capacities; we expected them to be closer.

Total UPS capacity is 3700W (APC 1500 + APC 2200) and the UPSes are typically at 50% usage. Square footage is about 125.

How do we size the mini-split? The server room does not have any exterior walls but it can get into the high 80s°F/30°C in the office and well over 100°F/38°C in the plenum ceiling above the room, which is directly below the roof. How much do we add for lights and the occasional person or two? Is there a feasible way to insulate the room better? It is standard light-office construction and unoccupied.

Thanks.
