Pipe size

Evening all,
Got myself in the brown smelly stuff today at work got the size of the pipe work wrong on a cut and shuffle was wondering if there was a tool out there which was avaliable to prevent me doing this again. I've seen the copperciser advertised but it only seems to be across the water.

1. Get a large keyring.
2. Cut off short sections of different pipe sizes.
3. Scribe pipe size onto offcut.
4. Drill keyring sized hole in each offcut.
5. Fit offcuts onto keyring.

last resort vernier calipers-maybe metric and imperial- to ensure lagging is correctly sized too
-( we all fluff up pipe sizes- i got stung on a mitsi 3.5kw power inverter- every 3.5kw 410a system is 1/4,3/8 -bit late when u run 30 mtr of pipework,in a bulkhead ceiling- no access to rectify- meant to be 1/4 and 1/2!!!!!!

I got this this thing from HRP many years ago
it comes in really handy especially with the larger sizes that I don't use too often,
I cant imagine it would be too hard to make if you couldn't find one

After time you will be able to tell them by site. When I first started in the field I had trouble identifying pipe size but after a year it was just like another reflex to know the pipe size by looking at it.

One of the typical fridgy's quality, is to tell the size of a pipe in the dark. It takes some time but it grows into a second nature.

It happened to all of us.

After installing A/C for 35 years pipe size is my only superpower ...... one look and i know what it is !!!!! its a skill that a lot of us have.......... but no good for fighting crime.....

Get a cheap vernier caliper or use an adjustable spanner and then measure the gap with a tape. Had a few things where its turned out to be metric fridge pipe so having something more accurate the eyesight is a good backup.

Only if the installers used the right size lagging! Seen oversize stuff used surprisingly frequently in the days before pre-lagged pipe.

if it's 7/8 and under, try a flare block. When you can tell just by looking...you're on your way :)
