View Full Version : Circut on a main power split board ?

I come across this problem today

On a main board

i have 3 thermocouples on a refrig system

1 is ambient , 2 is defrost , 3 is condenser

if these were in the wrong position on the board , how could i tell with electrical equipment (multi meter
not trial and error)
where should these probes be on the board.

I remember this board, the probes are not obvious.

Its something like...

34 and 35 for 1st 2 probes and 33 is the common for them.

I will try to dig out the paperwork for you.

Thanks for the advice guys

What i really want to know is , if i have no documentation on the mtsb board

I left my phone at home

I am 700km from the nearest town

I only have my tools in the car to find where the probes
go.

I know it can be done with trial and error
but what if i had to get it right first time ?

There has to be a way !!

Take the condenser probe off, put it in a glass of either hot or cold water, measure the resistance on the 3 probes on the board to identify it, mark it with tape, now remove the ambient probe and repeat the same steps, in this time the condenser probe has returned to ambient temp so should not throw you, the evap probe should now be self evident. Once done, repeat steps to confirm.

To do this all probes need to be at ambient temp, apply a little logic and it is easy. I hope that I have explained it properly. I had a problem some years ago when commissioning an alarm system on some island site freezers, one of our engineers had run all the probes in multi core cables but forgot to identify what core was to what in pairs to hook up in the panel, bit of a job to do, buy like I said, apply a little logic and it isn't rocket science.

Obviously from the responses , your method is the one most used.
I find it hard that we can not eliminate probes directly on the board though , i think it can be done by tracing circut back to the relay , but maybe not.

dude I think i know what your on about.

If you have the board and probe are conected, you at least know where they should be.

Take out the first unknown probe and bridge across. You should be able to at least know what that probe should be by the alarm or lack there of.


I'm only guessing though. :)

I used this method with a pot type thermostat to find hich probe was cactas as all resistance readings were OK. Found i had put a scew though one side of the wire.
