View Full Version : 5/16 liquid line left in place instead of replacing with 3/8

Hello all, I'm a homeowner who just had installed a Rheem model 13AJN 13 SEER condensing unit and evap coil.

Here's the issue- our contract says he would replace the liquid line with a new 3/8 inch run. When I got home I noticed my original 5/16 run was still in place, he just soldered onto the 3/8 at both coils. BTW- the run is approx 25 feet.

I called him on this. He said he checked the pressure and it was fine. I figured it was ok. But I wanted to check this with some experts to confirm.

Do you guys think this is appropriate? Or was a short-cut taken?
Further more- if he didn't replace it, aren't I entitled to some reimbursement?

I care less about the money than having the job done right. The lines to both coils are 3/8, so it would seem that the system is engineered for a 3/8 liquid line, right?

Thanks in advance for any clarity you can provide.

To get an expert help you should provide the full model identification so we can see its NOMINAL COOLING CAPACITY.

The evap is model number CFL-HM3621CC.
The condensor is model number 13AJN030.

Thanks!

Install Monkey- attached is the relevant section you suggested. I hi-lited what I think is applies to me- but I'm not sure how to interpret it. Any thoughts?

it states that for an outdoor unit above the evap, with a piperun of less than 25ft 5/16 is ok, also 5/16 is suitable for upto 150ft!!!- it does say not applicable in a heat pump.

OK, great. Sounds like the engineering is ok. So now the only issue is should I ask for reimbursement based on that line not being replaced as stated in the contract. Any idea what the material and labor on 25 feet of line replacement would be?

not much labour on running the pipe, uk cost for a 15 m coil of 3/8 pipe £17 and if majority of the pipework is outside or in a loft area then its a quick job, few hrs labour for pumping down the system running a new line, pressure test, vac and reinstate system.

worth a try for compensation
