View Full Version : Residential ORC generator

I have been doing some research on waste heat generators, and specifically organic rankine cycle generators. We heat a house and a shop with a low pressure wood boiler system. The system throws plenty of extra heat, and the wood is free (aside from time and fuel). The money it has saved us on heat in the winter is substantial, but it would make sense to utilize it as an energy generation system as well.

However, finding and specifics on ORC systems seems to be impossible. I would be happy to buy one (or possibly up to 3) if I could find them for a reasonable price, but I am not above building my own.
However, I would need some detailed instructions on how to build such a system. I understand how it works, the refrigerant boils at a low temp, spinning a turbine that powers a generators, and is cooled in the process, then is boiled again and so on.
But I don't have a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to refrigerants, so beyond the concept, I'm a little lost. Any help or information would be appreciated.

I don't think that I would need to generate any more than 10-20 Kw of power.
thanks in advance.

They custom build each unit, so their prices are astronautical. But thank you.
