Hi kefah
I have used the heat gel and had no failures from overheating. Also it allows enough time to heat the pipe well enough to seal with welding. I had used wet rags in the past but also had leaks which had to be re welded.

Interesting post, thanks Guys.

I did not even know this stuff existed.
One question though, as it evaporates. What's its shelf life like?

Not sure Grizzly but I had some in the back of the ute more than two years old. I wouldn't consider doing a four way valve without it.

Cool gel stuff looks quite good, i'll have a look about getting something and giving it a go.

In the past some old rags that are soaked with water, wrapped tightly around the valve has done the trick.

No problems yet...

pyrokool is ok but the kool gel is better- last 4 way i did i had it submerged in a bucket and brazed the pipework onto it and then brazed onto the system with at least 12 inch of pipe on the tails so no dramas
did a carrier eurotop 4 way 1 3/8 stubbs with wet rags and used 6ltr spray doc full of ice and water and had a chimp keep the rag cold!-again no dramas

What the content is...is irrelevant. If it's not readily available i would stick with the basic field tested methods. Wet rag etc, or do as Install Monkey says and sumbmerge the valve in water, however DONT GET WATER IN THE VALVE.... you should know why not.

been in for 3 month- note how the sticker on the body isnt scorched- also glo stick drops in the water, 2 others had allegedly repaired leaks on the system- small tubes had rubbed together so opted for the replacement option- and the quality of the braze is irrelevant as long as it doesnt leak as you only get a change to seal it before u refit it to the system:cool:

how i can check if the RV working properly or notYou can't really because the RV needs systems operating pressures to move the valve shuttle inside.

Magnet trick to show rv is working (only works when system running with refrigerant in)
