Becoming a training assessor

Hi Guys

I really fancy getting in to training is there anyone out there who can offer some advice on how to do this and what i will need to get qualified in?

The way I did it was to offer my time to my local college (100 mile round trip local :D)
I did night school and they put me trough my teacher training and HNC while I worked.
After about five years part time (still working full time as a service engineer) I went full
time with the college.

I did look into a private training company, they were willing to pay but I would have to
fund any and all training I needed and it would prove costly.

Working in the college you get the full works.

Teacher training (with the cap and gown on graduation)
A1 assessor training
V1 internal quality control
C&G level 3
HNC
Ammonia training
C02 training
Health & safety
Key skills (reading, riting & rithmatic)
And a whole load more.

Hi Rob,
I often thought about it myself, teaching the trade etc., but you have totally put me off it with all the grief and paper work and red tape stuff. Good on you though for doing the hard yards and what ever.

So did you just contact a local; college and they funded you? are you a trainer now? i have always enjoyed helping others and think im at a stage in my career now i can offer alot to people. I dont mind doing night college etc but just didnt know what course i would have to do

I contacted 2 private training organisations first.

One offered me a part time job, mainly weekends at £250 a day (12 years ago)
and the other offered me a full time position, but I had a really uneasy feel for
the company so politely declined.

Then I contacted the college where I did my training back in the eighties and
after a visit and a talk to the curriculum manager they offered me a part time
contract teaching 2 nights a week and they would pay me, plus pay for all the
training I would require to become a college lecturer.

So I did that for 5 years (while still working as a service / commissioning engineer)
before I went full time with them about six or seven years ago.
It was the training I was looking for and I got loads of it.

I was lucky because when I inquired there was a need for trainers, I think the
world economy has changed a little since then and training is an expense companies
seem reluctant to pay for and therefore, a lot of the training companies are struggling
to find work.

I currently work for the company in my avatar and have done so for, nearly five years now.

just had a flyer from HRP -would you say training is being hit hard at the moment as there were a lot of courses offered and few takers ?

We are really busy but not all the courses are fully booked,
so we are really busy trying to meet the requirements of
the customer and then running courses with minimum numbers.

2079 F-gas was the thing that made a lot of people jump on the
band wagon and a large amount of training was done in the 3 years
since 2009 but it has gone back to the normal numbers now that most
people have their F-gas qual and that means companies who did
only F-gas have been hit hard.

We do all types of training and some is the product awareness training for
specific equipment (just like other manufacturers) and therefore we are really
busy, but that is really busy with less people on the course.......

You know what I mean?? ;)
