View Full Version : Danfoss Compressor NL6F - no capacitor ok?

I've recently ordered replacement electrics (PTC starting device) for a Danfoss NL6F compressor. The old PTC device - 103N0021 made use of a capacitor on the start winding, however the replacement - 103N0011 has no terminal for a capacitor, and it doesn't show a capacitor in the danfoss wiring diagram.

Does this mean the compressor will run ok without a capacitor?

data sheet shows a capacitor

If you look on the data sheet, there are two drawings. One labelled HST (which includes a capacitor) and the other labelled LST. I have the starting device shown in LST diagram which shows no wiring of a capacitor. I thought this was odd, but then again, I don't work with integral a very often.

Actually, just found the answer for myself in this documentation.

Turns out you don't nessecarily need a capacitor in systems where the pressures equalises.

make sure the pot is off for 2-3mins to ensure system pressures equalize when off on stat

It's on a thermostat, not controller so I have no control over compressor start delay. It'll probably be over 5 minutes between cycles. Do you think I'm best ordered the HST electrics instead?
