.

Completely out of the blue this morning I had a phone call from the
Environmental Agency regarding a few people we have trained in the past.

They were requiring certificate numbers because they were looking into
various companies and their lack of compliance and / or membership to
the F-gas register.

So nothing to do with Richards post from months ago that was updated this
week, but it would seem that the authorities are starting to look into this.

I remember being told that the enforcement would be concentrated on the
supermarkets for the first three years, giving the others time to comply.

Just remember the compliance date was 2009 and then extended to 2011,
that means the 3 year grace period is over now and the authorities are
going to spread their enforcement net further afield.

Regards

Rob.

I did my 2079 with a company in knowsley- not naming or promoting- but what gets me is they give u a certificate, but no card with ur piccy on, so the engineer cannot keep tabs of when its due for renewal- you cannot rely on the muppets in the office to arrange for renewal- also it makes it more difficult for reputable wholesalers (not Halfords or e bay) to police who they sell to, regards mr patel!!! :D

Hey IM
C&G 2079 doesn't need renewal - not to say that it will never be superseded or made obsolete by new legislation.

There was talk at one stage of an ID card. Never heard any more.

.

For us, the engineer there are 2 separate exam routes.
1 X CITB J11 - J12 which is done every 5 years and has an ID card
1 X City & Guilds 2079 which is done only once and has no ID.

You are then supposed to register with ACRIB
application form here https://www.skillcard.org.uk/ApplicationForms/ACRIB%20CRO%20April%202012.pdf
which is your photo ID and that does need renewing.

But for the guys out there with the City & Guilds 2079 version,
we were told it was a one time exam unless they change the gases
or change the legislation. Well guess what, they are looking into
making it every 5 years.

Most construction skills have to be continuously updated to prove you
are still current with training and competent enough to do the job
so don't be surprised if we get notification that we have to retake the
qualification.

it seems stupid that suppliers of fridge gas don't check whether you're f-gas or not.

I was contacted by a rep from a company that let's say, sells non fridge specific parts but who have branched out into selling gas and lagging etc.

So I mentioned the F-gas regulations and he'd never heard of them.....it was cheap gas though !

thats the problem, what is to stop me sitting exams,2079 for anybody would be better if you needed to provide id say passport, driving licence photo [my passport is a forgery lmao] its all bull, wholesalers will sell to anyone and as far as i am aware they are under no legal ob not to do so,if they are tell me !
