silensys condenser fan failures

I've just had a second condenser fan fail, after approx 30mins running, on a brand new unit. They have a built in speed controller, the first lost its 10 vdc output to the module on the receiver, and this one has stopped responding to the control voltage. Anyone else having problems? I'm currently looking at fitting an alternative fan and speed controller, but this is not what you expect of a brand new unit!

The fan is EBM Papst - I don't think I would have expected this kind of problem from them!

Hi Glenn.
If it is any consolation, I and my colleagues have been having similar issues with the odd Zeihl Abegg.
Which is alarming itself as these have always been bullet proof.
I am beginning to wonder where most items are manufactured or sourced prior to assembly?

They have very good reputation,or had.

best fan motors I have seen are on Copeland condensing units, they cycle on head pressure control, running on two phase 400v to 460V with a capacitor. some are still running perfect after 25 years of use!!

This sounds very critical if the fan is being damaged after 30mins. Whos fridge kit is it? Sounds like an interface issue with the control circuit being damaged but without knowing the details it is difficult to comment.

The unit is a SILFH2511ZFZ, the speed controller is part of the standard set-up. There may be a fault with the Johnson Controls part mounted on the receiver, but putting a meter on it shows the resistance changing with pressure as it should, and nothing obviously wrong. In order to get the unit up and running I've ditched the EBM fan and fitted an alternative without the fancy electronics inside.

Oh, and the compressor overheats on low load as the fan didn't run enough to draw air through the unit. I already had to fit a small axial fan to correct that problem. Probably won't be buying another one any time soon!
