He also has the thermometer in the cab vent but the selector switch is set for demisting the windscreen.

I guess that we are all far too observant!
I refuse to work on cars that the owner admits to self-charging, especially if they have used the leak stopper as well.
The problem is, if they don't bother to tell you and you end up with gummed up gauges etc.
