Hi guys,
Having a problem with Stal S24 machine which has split it's oil filter several times.
Wanting to know if anyone else has experienced this before with a poor batch of filters.
Filters are genuine part.
Press diff feed oil circuit which does not increase over time and split, seems to just split randomly.
Machine is running as a high stage machine. 2 bar Suct Press, 11 bar Discharge.
I'm also suspect of discharge check valve could be part of the problem as it is passing slightly.
How can this affect the filter on start up as it feeds to an intermediate press to the rotors and when check valve is not passing oil press diff is straight up to press within 1-2 seconds of start up???

Mainly want to clarify if it's a poor batch of filters or relative to check valve.
Heard from some other engineers that the Stal oil filters used to be an all metal gauze filter media but these filters are cardboard.
Would appreciate any help or suggestions if people have come across these issues before.

Cheers,

is it splitting in the seam where the paper halves are glued? is it ammonia or *****?

we had some problems a few years ago when a supplier replaced the metal meshed fiberglass filters with a paper type, of course they said it would be just as good, however the ammonia ate away the glue and the filters would split after a short time in operation. luckily the steel cover kept the biggest pieces inside the filter.

We changed back to the fiberglass encased in a steel mesh and the problem was solved.

Sorry, yes system is ammonia and the filter is splitting up glued seam.

Filter is encased in steel mesh but once removed you can see a big split on the inside of card filter.

I feel it could be the filters but was interested to know if anyone else has had these problems recently.

Cheers

Kind of similar but the filters we have been supplied have an exterior lprotective layer as well with the cardboard media inside.
Pulled the filter out of another S24 compressor which is next to this one this has had a new filter as well. This has also spilt.
You can clearly see where it's split up the glued seam.
Not sure what we can do from here. Really want to source some complete all metal filters.

Hi torque,
Still waiting to have confirmation about filter, but supplier has said it looks like the adhesive used in the filter was not correct. Filters have come from Sabroe Europe.
