I've recently started working for a company who are promoting and selling "solar" air-conditioning. There are saying there air cons are more efficient as they have introduced a thermal collector. The 'thermal collector' in cooling mode is an extension of the suction line in between the head unit and the compressor. It is effectively a heat exchanger, a coil of copper running through a panel full of water, which is ment to sit in the sun. On heating mode, using the reversing valve the thermal collector is switched to the high side and sits between the head unit and the restriction device. I've so far seen no evidence of reduced amp draw and am struggling to see how the efficency of the system would improve on heating or cooling.

What effect would extending the suction line through a thermal collector have on a refrigeration cycle?

What effect would extending the liquid line through a thermal collector have on the refrigeration cycle?

Any input/ideas would be appreciated.

Well you were asking about this kit about a month ago and now you're working for them.

Seems like they've sold it to someone. ;)
