Tools and Calculators

When someone mentions Tools, I think of Gauges, vac pumps, DVM testers, leak detectors, etc. tanglible hardware. Calculators, well could be handheld, but really software running on a PC or tablet. So I'm thinking these two should have separate Forums, one for Tools and one for Calculators. I don't have the time to wade through discussion topics that I am not currently interested in, and by combining the two into one forum is very time consuming.

So, please separate the two!

A person, typically male, who says or does things that cause you to give them a 'what-are-you-even-doing-here' look. Hi brothers,

I am interested to buy a test light for work, but I would like this one suitable for 6 to 24 volts applications.
can any of you recommend me any one in particular where I can get this.
I checked Snap on but so far I have found only 12 V, another thing is that I do not know which one is better the one that uses LED or just a normal bulb ???

please I really appreciate any help.

Erm!
Any modern multimeter out performs test lamps.
For range versatility.
With the exception of a Proving lamp (Martindale etc.) but even these use LEDs nowadays.
Of which there are many good versions.


An LED supersedes a filament bulb, it is far more robust.
Which area of our wonderful trade are you working in?

That said, a high impedance voltmeter can give you a false indication also - eg this arvo, when my father complained about the rear 12v socket in his Prado having 12.8v, but wouldn't power anything. Connect a load, and the power disappears. Back to the DMM, and we find there's 27k ohm between outlet and loom connector. Both are good tools to have.

What REALLY sticks in my mind is the TK training I had last year, when we were told DO NOT use a test lamp.

Hi brothers, I am sorry for such a long time to replay, I have been disconnected for a while.
I am working in transport refrigeration, I really like it, different things every day, diffrent units, I am relatively new here but I like it.
I know perhaps a multimeter can do the test, I ve got one of those, but I find test light quite useful and handy,
and my mates at work they have a nice snap on which measures from 6 to 24 volts, so I was thinking something like that but more affordable.

the other person flyinkiwi mention learnig in the TK training not to use it, I would like to know why.

Because the idea is to share our knowledge and help each other where we can.

Whenever our experience on a given topic may help.

However promoting anything or anyone is a bad scenario, unless handled sensitively.

What the heck a new tablet within 200 dollars has to do with refrigeration has me confused.
Unless your post is an elaborate scam / spam?

I've got a Kindle for pdf files, easier to use than lots of manuals and less to worry about value wise compared to a lap top ipad etc.
