1/4 HP R-134a Fridge Compressor Uses a Capacitor, but...

My 1/4 HP Embraco FGS 80HAW R-134a refrigerator compressor says it uses a 20 uF run capacitor specifically, but, it starts and runs with refrigerant under pressure, and works without the capacitor attached.

I don't know about run capacitors. Could the lack of a run capacitor be affecting its efficiency?

Capacitor is for power correction so yeah, reconnect it.

Motors with a run capacitor cannot work without one. Do you mean the compressor start, then the capacitor is disconnected and the compressor continues to run ? Then it is start capacitor.
