Hi Mr. Bartlett
You need to be a little more specific with the items - a different brand could almost double the price.
Is the 5/8 tube rated for R410a, drier - is it a core type & how many cores (bricks). If you have access to list prices there would be +40% trade discount for any big company.
It's really flippin expensive here in Sydney for a lot of stuff like $4 for a coffee this morning & $85 for 3 hours parking last week, let alone over priced rent. I got a parking ticket today for $99 it;s gone up from the last one 3 weeks ago at $86.

Hi Richard,
Here are the prices from one of the main suppliers here, note they are list prices so no discount:
1 30m roll of 1/4 copper- Approx $200
1 2m length 5/8 copper - Appprox $15 per meter
1 3/8 weld in drier - $ 34.34
1 kg R404a - $ 95.00
copper price changes freqeuntley but as a rough guide you should be ok.

Yeah about $200 for r404a, the rest of what KTT said was about right, except I believe r.bartlett said 5/8" armaflex insulation, not copper, so about $4 for a 2m length I think?

You can correct me on the armaflex price though if you want. It's just a guess as I haven't bought any for ages (don't do many installs and I have a heap of it in the shed I bought last year, so foggy memory price only)

Hmmm, R404a levy alone is around 95 AUD now. Buggered if i know where the list price of $377 and change came from?
When one adds June retail price of R404a to the "Carbon Tax" levy in July, R404a should only have risen to about 1/2 of what it is now.
RB, Where abouts did you send this item of yours?

It's a cabinet whihc is aparently touring AU as part of the Circ du soleil. The client sent it out working but it had an issue. Local chapr ripped it to shreds but that's another story.

the upshot was/is there is a warranty claim which has been haded onto me and I am in dispute over prices. $60 au for a 3/8 drier being just one example or
$35 au for a 2m length of insulation or
$37 for 2 lengths of brown tip solder (for 4 x 3/8 welds mind)

Although they did sell 1kg of R404 for 75 bucks

The r404a is neither here nor there, no one would charge less than $200 /kg now, but before 1st july should have been near $55.
I think brown tip is about $12 a stick, I don't charge that on it's one though as it doesn't melt itself, I usually charge $15 for a general 'soldering' charge if it's 2-4 joins (ie 1/4 or less of a brown tip rod) of copper to copper to cover oxy/acet or turboset costs as well as the sticks. So $37 for two sticks as 'cost' is fine, but as you say, no way that much would have been used.
