what is the limit of oil traps u can have on a vrf with 26 fancoils and if there is to many traps will this damage the compresser

.

Some have no oil traps. Others do, depends on the height differance
and the location of the evaps compared to the compressor. it also
varies between manufactures

The only true way to know would be to use the manufacturers instructions
because too many may, amongst other problems cause a pressure
drop along the suction line. Plus more traps = more oil inside the system.

will this lead to the compresser burning out or shortin the life of the compressor

look at instal manual or check with tecnical be for instaling oil traps

Short answer: YES.

Longer answer:
To the best of my knowledge none of the big VRV/VRF manufacturers endorse oil traps.
However, each oil trap added to the system will require a certain amount of oil and as there is a limited amount of oil in the system the oil to "feed" the traps has to be taken from somewhere else within the system, after all the oil has disappeared from the compressor the compressor will stop working.

Most if not all VRF systems have very efficient oil separators and the refrigerant velocity is sufficient for oil return from the field pipe work providing the installation is up to scratch.
I personally never have or never would consider oil traps on a VRF installation unless advised to do so by the bloke who design's the kit for the manufacturer...

none on vrv vrf-highcool splits and airedale and imi recommend oil traps- as long as your kit is installed within the install parameters- maximum total piperun, max height between indoor.outdoor, distance between 1st and last indoor- all will be ok , as stu says they have oil seperators-and some kit does an oil return mode-(tosh)

Dom. It reads as though you have a specific point or problem and want
a specific answer?

If you gave us some more information about the system then
we could answer with a more specific answer.

But what has been said is as good as you will get with
the limited information you have given.

As small number as possible, zero will be much better. Oil is lube for compressor and must return back to compressor no matter how, lack of oil will damage the compressor.

Some said, oil traps will shorten the life of compressors as follows:
No. of oil trap >> Life of compressor
one or zero >> 10 years
two to 5 >> 1 years
5 or more >> 3 months
10 or more >> 3 hrs
15 or more >> 3 mins
