I have been asked to convert a small box trailer into a mobile chilled unit, just a little thing about the size of a small caravan, So can ony one point me in the direction of a refrigeration unit that can be used on 12V DC and 230V AC

danfoss still do a 12 v comp use 12v condensor and evap fans out of spall then if you want to 230 it a tranny and a rec pack and of you go all 12v dc so you can run it via of trailer socket of car on the road the ones we have built draw about 16 amps on full load

Both Hubbard/Zannoti and GAH and I think Carrier still do a 12 volt battery driven refrigeration unit I have fitted the hubbard unit to a small insulated trailer you can either have a chill or frozen, with or with out 240v standby, hope this helps

Hi Devlin
You`ll need to check the amp/hour out put of the vehicle alternator. Also the wiring to the trailer socket probably won`t be man enough to handle the fridge unit current draw so the power supply cable might need upgrading.

Glenn your dead right would need to be around 4mm2 cable

on our connections for trailer we use the spare pin and the fog light wire each wire rated at 15 amps and run on on a ignition relay drawing 16 amps max no diff then useing a split charger on a caravan or if you really want to be safe use the new type 13 pin plug most modern vechicles have large alts so drawing this type of amps aint a issue on th road just be carefull if your vechicles have mutiplexed wiring i put a towbar on my car just incase all the vans was out to deliver the rental trailers and the wiring loom was as much as the towbar
