Hey evryone this is my first post

basicly i drive a ford transit with a engine mount kit, alex original roof top condenser and evap. the controller is eliwell id974

the unit is only 4 months old with ra404 and hot gas defrost

the evap coils keep freezing up within the first 15 minutes of operation causing the evap fan to stop.

have ran the system through defrost several times so the coils are clear but the unit is still freezing up

the pipes are getting very iced up also .

had an engineer out who basicly defrosted the ice away and suggested that the van is being over loaded and causing the system to freeze up.

now even with the van empty and the system defrosted the coils are still freezing

can anyone help

Before it ices up are the fans running and blowing the correct way with good airflow across the coil?

the fans are blowing the correct way and the airflow across the coil is fine, ive put a couple of pics up

the controller has a fan delay/temperature start option this could be wrongly set ,its tricky to set up if you have no experience i need to know if you are able to interrogate the controller?

basically the fan will not start until the coil has reached a preset temperature that is the evap coil itself if this is set too cold then your problem could occur, also there is a time setting for the fan start again if this is set wrong the evap will freeze up what kind of engineer checked it did he check the controller settings and has this problem just happened or always been there as you said its only 4 months old?

As far as im aware the problem has only been for the last 3 weeks, it was the works engineer that came out, he wasnt very interested . Im used to working with the GAH units with the lae controllers,

Forgot to mention that it will display E2 , my last check of the probe temps when i got home was pb1 +4.3 and pb2 -52.3

Coil probe -52.3. Wow, that's a bit cold.
When E2 comes up it means coil probe open or short circuit. Looks like it's faulty and giving you an incorrect reading there mate.
Cheers,
Andy.

yes E2 is the evaporator probe change it and your prob could be solved so i guess its flashing E2 when in use.

Agreed it sounds like a faulty coil probe but why would it ice up enough to stop the fan in 15 mins as a result???

yes with that evap because of the fan location, plus if its a moist atmosphere as its being loaded.

Never seen one of the alexander fridges let alone the evap?

It seems to have settled down in the warm weather, but as soon as the wet weather returns no doubt the problem will be back

with the evap sensor sensing -50deg the fan will start straight away after defrost-so no dripping time or fan delay till the coil temp reaches 0deg- eliwell sensor's cost £3 and take 5 mins to change if you crimp a new 1 on
