1 - Enough screws to make sure it stays on the wall.....depends on what the wall is made of....
2 - Depends on the refrigerant being used.......Depends on the cylinder it's in......

Upright for vapour withdrawal ,flip it over for liquid !(presuming you only have one valve and no dip tube)
R22 can be charged as a vapour as it is not a blend.

As many as required !!!!
No one is going to complain about the price of a few screws.
But they will complain if the A/C unit falls off the wall and lands on their kid.
Use common sense .
Most manufacturers provide screws for mounting the plate ,so count them ,and use it as a guide line.

i hung a daikin 71 cassette off 6 tech screws holding 41 21 strut to a duct- then i fitted 41 41 strut with rawl bolts then droprods to transfer the load-as for the elusive question no 1- 1 fixing in the centre of the bracket to allow for exact centring- then 2 at the top corners to keep the top lip of the brcket tight to the wall, then 2 in the lower corners for where it clips onto the indoor unit- some manufacturers show on the installation instructions where they want the fixings, as long as the bracket is firmly fixed to the wall, typically the indoor only weighs around 7kg-unless its a 10kw wall mount that are upto 30kg!!-i remember getting called to an ac unit hanging off the wall- turned up and low and behold an imi cu80 was at 40deg only held on with its bottom fixings- had to re secure it whilst still piped up!

still fitting it-dont worry its bombproof!
did an install years ago-had 2 cassettes in a bp station- as it was just a corrugated tin cladding roof- no steelwork to fix off and was a rush job- from the drop rods off the cassette had to use standoff brackets for tray -and 4 1 1/4 pozi with washers on each corner- still up 10yr later!!but as the outdoors was mounted straight on the butyl rubber roof they moved a bit in the wind! haha

Just put in as many as you can, there will be holes in the bracket, so just use that as a guide to how many!!

The more the better!

I can't quite understand the problem, unless your buying an exact amount of screws to do this with, in which case just buy a handfull and bung them in!

OK,
True answer... 0 (zero), you don't need any screws at all...

A few years back I were asked to do an install in a "tanked" room, no penetrations through the membrane was allowed.
Pipework down the stairs and wall mounted unit glued on to wall using epoxy resin.
It stayed up for at least 5 years but I haven't been back there for a while so it might have dropped of by now.
