oil seperator

Excuse stupid question but is it normal practice to add oil to a new oil seperator when installing a new compressor? or is there enough oil in the new compressor. Just talkin bout ordinary recip comp??

Normally the compressor comes pre-charged but the oil separator dry and the separator therefore needs filling up, if you read the manual that comes with the separator it should tell you how much to fill it with.
