Now that's what I call in need of a clean!

Yep, pulled this one out of a comp sump today.
There are 2 gauze strainers (1 fine, 1 course.) then a paper element filter in the middle.

It had run for 2 yrs since the last service. I showed it to the Engineering manager prior to using their parts cleaner bath.
He took some photo's of it as well!
I think it may form the basis of his argument to his senior management. For more frequent servicing?

Or you could always just replace the elements (Like I'm sure you did):eek:

Hi Grizzly!

Is that scale from steel pipework on the filter? I'm guessing its from an ammonia system.
Can't have been doing the compressor much good!

I'm guessing its out of that Sabroe 8-180 you were having a fight with the new type valve springs.
Sabroe kept changing oil pump filter design, but this one still works well after, what 45 years!

Two man job to put in cylider liner with all that double valve gear on top of liner.
I've rebuilt one, thats enough.
They last forever running direct drive 750rpm, even with dirty filter.

Scale from their treated water is a definite issue, but Hey last time I rebuilt said machine was 2 years ago.
Which we would only warranty for 6 months, now they are saying they want to flog it! Sorry run it,
for 2 more years.
Until the new Mycom plant is finished...

Believe it or not! The strainers actually cleaned up a treat. Obviously the filter cartridge was new.
Prior to stripping oil pressure was not an issue. The comp was running hot with 2 heads having head cooling issues.

I bet the new style of oil filter they have for the 100 series would have blocked long ago in those conditions. Do they have an upgrade for the 180 series?

I am not sure on that one?
All I know is that the filter cartridge that was ordered was the correct one.
If I get chance I will check against the part numbers.

The replacable filter is a bypass filter that cleans a small amount of oil off dischage of pump.
It has a tiny orifice off main oil line feeding this filter & is continually conditioning oil at "X" micron, finer than cleanable filters on suction of oil pump.

There are no spring loaded bypass or anything, like on some hydraulic oil filter housings in case filter is blocked
