Hi all, months ago i saw a job online for an ac engineer on a resort in the maldives so i applied via email but never heard anything back.... Until a week ago when i had an email saying they may be interested in considering me for the position i emailed back asking for more detail and they replied with more detail.
They want a copy of my passport and 2 passport photos and US $30

Now am i right in saying recruiters should never ask for a penny off a job seeker?

The company go under the name of "job asia" i did a search and found 1 forum with people suspecting they are a scam but could find nothing else for any full conformation.

Anyone had any dealings with them before, they seem to post a hell of a lot of jobs up! Just google the email address jaint9@Gmail.com

Thanks

An absolute fraud.
Received various crap from them in the past , never replied to any of it though.
It's a speculation scam they bombard site's and individuals with these offers and if a few hundred mug's part with there $30 .they pocket a tidy little sum and move on.
They then change their point of attack to a different trade and the scam carry's on.
A very lucrative business for the fraudsters.
Steer well clear!!!

The want to make fake passports. Thats where the real money is.

certainly sounds like a scam, but thinking logically what would they do with passport photos. Any asian would not pass as a european, ok don't send passport. Perhaps a photocopy with the number blanked out.
Most reputable employment people ask for resume/ CV. and wont $30 for a placement fee after the event.

I think they want to copy the writing on the back of the pics so it can be placed on bogus pic to make it more legit looking......just a thought, who really knows.

Maldives? think there was a writeup on the resorts there last week. Massage parlors were busted for allowing more than the simple massage.

I calculate that to be 9 pints.....based on an exchange rate of £0.69 = $1 :D

The UK may be expensive for some things but not for beer, it seems. I think you should do some limited export to far off lands like.......Canada

Typical price for a pint in toronto is $6-7 (in a pub)

Typical price for a pint in toronto is $6-7 (in a pub) I've no idea what it costs for a drawn beer. Only go to the drive through. Can tell you what a carton of beer or a bottle of Jamaican rum costs me . 52 bucks for 24 stubbies and 39 for the rum. Aussie dollars. no wonder i'm broke. Might have said before that 7 days holiday in one of the nations up north of Aus, with 3 meals/day, and accommodation in a 5 star motel costs about 400 AUD. (So i was told by a customer of mine ;). An escort for the night is just pocket change, lucky sod.

I am quoting the above to refocus on the gravity of this matter. My advice is, never divulge your personal information to anyone, esp name, date of birth, address, etc............That would be asking and assisting someone who wishes to commit ID fraud.

As for $30.00. Anyone who asks for money is a scammer. You want a job to make money, not give it away. Just because the site says, Asia something, may not necessarily be Asian, sometimes people will use names for credibility.

The average local, corporate beer (Bud, miller, labatt, molsun (rival to labatt), coors etc is around $1.50 for 355lm from a govt owned beer store. Most part of Canada don't have private booze sales except in pubs.

Most local "craft (micro-brewery)" beer is about $2.00-2.40 as well. British and good European beer including Fullers London Porter (my current fav) is $2.50-3.00 for 500ml can.

Can't speak to escort prices....hehe

Mike, you are not that poor compared to us. Same goes for the the rum

Hey Mike I was in the del'n'chicken in Eglington about two years ago, I ordered a phillisteak sarnie and two pints of Ricards Red. I took out $30.00 dollars to be ready to give to the barman thinking it would cover the cost as I didn't look at the prices with it being out in the suburbs, and I didn't have enough. I think the total cost was about $38.00.

Mind you the sarnie and the beer was very good, as was the entertainment, but pharkin ehw $38.00 for a couple of pints and a sarnie!

Anyway back to the main thread.

Applying for a job shouldn't cost any more than the price of a stamp to send off your application. I have noticed that there's always been some chancer some where trying to charge admin fees for registering your details for a job that doesn't exist. The next scam will probably be for working in Libya just like it the scams for working in Kuwait after the war.

Send me the $30 and I'll tell you if you got the job.........;)

Feel free to forward said $30 on to me with a cheque for £30 to cover my expenses, i will promote you to senior director status in my new refrigeration based holiday company i have just thought of, and if you PM me your bank card details complete with the 3 digit security number on the reverse we can all go on holiday. I believe the Maldives is a nice warm destination at this time of year. I know for a fact its cold in manchester right now and i fancy a break. Hope to hear from you soon, you know it makes sense.
