Thanks to input from Ranger and others. I have followed the link and realized that Big Blue is very similar to the Swageloc Snoop which I use.
However one of the other products mentioned was Nylog!

A very interesting video of its uses.....

Has anyone actually used this and what do they think of it?

Never heard of it before Grizzly , looks like good stuff.
Usually use Loctite 554 or 577 on threads and only ever use suitable oil on flare faces .
But since this stuff is "oil" worth a punt I suppose.

You don't really need these toys, Big Blue is no better then soap, apart from the price, instead on Nylog you can use mineral oil which is thicker then ester oil.

I am pretty confidant that you have never used it by your statement.
Keep an open mind & give it a go.

Grizzly, I have some but yet to use it.
Apparently a fitting on say 404a using thread tape will have a micro leak after awhile, but not this stuff.
The trouble is I don't do much ***** stuff, but will have to find an opportunity.

I have tried it, very good. But made a very sticky mess in tool bag when it leaked so was relegated to the rubbish bin. So generally stay with Loctite 577 for everything, the yellowy stuff. Comes in a tube
In the past had a huge problem with thread tape and r22 after an extended period they all leaked.
Big Blue is excellent, far better than soapy water, and sulphur sticks for ammonia is an old reliable as well. I used to have a small bottle of sulphur dioxide, a quick burst pin pointed any ammonia leaks, no longer available these days.

Ranger1, wrong my friend.

I have used these products and did not find any special benefits.
As a matter of fact, I still have Big Blue gallon that I am not sure if I will use.

Its all about the perfect flare. Oil helps very much in two ways, it helps the nut slip on the copper and fill the gap [as small as could be] on the stud.

I don't say these products are useless but you can avoid them if you make the perfect flare.

I'm surprized that Big blu did'nt impress, as I've always used soapy water(dishwashing liquid) as well.

As for flares I agree oil is all you need.

Worked with a friend of mine who had some blue leak stuff made by diversitech which i was impressed with, not sure it its the same stuff.

Have been using the kmp flourescent stuff thats has a sponge on a stick for dabing in the suspect area, was thinking of getting some of the blue stuff to put in the pot when its gone as i like the sponge but no so much the flourescentness.

Was told by a plumber friend not to use washing up liquid as its alkaline and can lead to corrosion if left on pipework but had been using it for years as its alway free on farms!

Haven't tried or seen the nylog for sale here, but one of the equipment manufacturers kit i work on uses silicon grease behind the flare (not on the sealing face) to lube the nut and i've yet to see one of their joints leak.

I've been trying some aluminium anti seize stuff in the same way but am yet to make my mind up. Its made by loctite,

http://www.hisltd.co.uk/Loctite-8060-Aluminium-Anti-Sieze-Stick-20g.html

I got it for stainless fixings that always seem to lock together without any anti seize stuff on them.

I didn't explain well, it was a leak finding spray that was good. Not that leak lock stuff which as you say is the work of Mara himself... or possibly event Bel Shamharoth, who can say?
