12,000 BTU Expander

Hello.

For a 12,000 BTU unit, is a capillary tube appropriate? If not, what type of expander is recommended for that?

Room air conditioning. It will be used to chill water using a plain tubing evaporator, and then the chilled water will be circulated through a heat exchanger indoors that cools the air.

is this feeding 1 indoor heat exchanger? as a 12000btu unit capacity is 3.5kw,typically sized to cool a room of approx 40 sq mtr-so your trying to cool more than 1 room then ur compressor is gonna be chugging its nuts off!
go for tev as this will maintain superheat at different loads and give better control-even better go for an electronic expansion valve

It is for one room.

TEV means thermostatic expansion valve, right? :S

I remember asking for an expansion valve over the phone at the local refrigeration and A/C store. They quoted a price of a few thousand dollars (Jamaican) and didn't really ask for much information about the unit. Hopefully the only information they need is that I want a thermostatic expansion valve for a 12,000 BTU air conditioner? Or is there more I should confirm?

Alright. When I called the store again they said the capillary tubing they have is for refrigerators, not air conditioners, and they didn't have the expansion valve for 12,000 BTU units, and ATL said they have capillary tubes for Panasonic units, but no expansion valve. They were like "what? Expansion valve for a 12,000 BTU?". There aren't any other expander options are there? Or will I be forced to pinch the tube and call that the expander like I did last time? :(

Thank you, I will watch that video in a moment. I have called quite a few stores and none of them have the capillary tube for 12,000 BTU units (in general, which is weird). How could that be.

just get a tev, it gives better control over varying loads, theres info on how to fit them, just remember to insulate the bulb,and mount the bulb lower than the tev head
