Welcome to the forum, you have been sitting on the fence for quite a while I see!
Given you are in the U.K. the answer to your question should be in EN 378.
I don't have time at this minute as I am on my way out the door to work.

Hi Mark.
The answers you require are very detailed. But you can get what you need from EN378 part 3.
In short the type of occupancy is relevant then layout and charge etc. (R717 = B2 category.)
I promised I would give you some answers, only having re read some of the regs(as above).
I realise You need to read it yourself as there is way to much for me to post.
