Hello.

My 12,000 BTU LG compressor has what appears to be a 1/2 inch outlet and inlet and I am wondering if it will work properly if I attach a 3/8" tube to it? Or if it has to be strictly the same size as the tubes that are already on the compressor? What I really need to know is: Is a 3/8 inch tube acceptable for making both the evaporator and condenser for a 12,000 BTU compressor?

I don't want to have to buy a huge 1/2 inch tube for it unless necessary. Is there anything I can read that explains the importance of tube size?

Thank you for your time.

Check the unit to see if it came with an adaptor for 3/8, for a 12000btu unit i would imagine 3/8 and 1/4 would be fine.

Thank you, install monkey. I finally got a Toshiba 12,000 BTU compressor over the weekend (the LG plan didn't work out) and it has a 1/2 inch accumulator tube and a 3/8 inch outlet tube. The quarter inch tube and 3/8 tubes don't fit snugly into the ports.

Compressor:
8261

Tube fitting (3/8" tube in accumulator to left and 1/4" tube in compressor outlet to right):

82628263

Here are some compressor details:

Displacement: 21.6 cm3/revolution.

Maximum tube length: 49 feet.

SUCTION TUBE(I.D) 12.9 mm

DISCHARGE TUBE(I.D) 8.2 mm

Rated Revolution: 48.0/48.4±1% S-1 (I don't know what this means, if you could tell me.)

I saw this on a website: "Copper tube diameters vary for each size of unit. 9000 BTU uses 1/4" and 3/8" OD copper tubing, 12,000 and 18,000 BTU units use 1/4" and 1/2" tubing, and the 24,000 BTU unit uses 3/8" and 5/8" copper tubing. Our unit comes with the copper tubing with 1/4" foam insulation the full length. You can purchase additional copper tubing from Home Depot. Often installers will add copper elbows from Home Depot to make cleaner turns with the copper lines. "

Just heat the connections on the compressor and crimp them down on the pipes to get a good fit. Not forgetting, of course, to flow nitrogen through while heating

Oh no :(, I don't have nitrogen and am out of money. Why do I need to use that?
