Vrv Refrigerant metering in heating mode

On a vrv system on heating mode is refrigerant metered at the indoor unit? And
The high pressure liquid line is now a low pressure/low temperature line. Or is the metering device at the indoor bypassed and metered at the outdoor coil and the liquid line is always a high pressure liquid line. Just came to mind when i had trouble insulating some pipe confined to a tight space and wondering if it was
Necessary to be insulated? Cheers

Daikin vrv install manual states insulate both lines or all 3 if heat recovery,preferably with 13mm wall armaflex
