Just curious to find out the hourly rate around Australia for a Supermarket Tech with between 5-10 years experience in the field.

Hi Dave
Are you talkin post trade experience? I only have 20 years and work in AC now but started in pure refrig work. It would be interesting to know what the difference between refrig and AC pay rates. There are some areas which offset the hourly rate like conditions and allowances. My pay rate is confidential by signed contract but I get between 35 and 40 per hour. Could you tell us what range you get and why you ask? As we all know some of us are worth more than others due to competency and application to the work required.

I know within the industry their are some that apply themselves more than others and that there is others that coast. I also know that some are more knowledgable than others I guess I am asking those who are dedicated and hard working, who may have done further study to get a gauge on what is an acceptable rate, I myself am on mid 30s, sometimes if you don't talk to others things move along and you stay standing still, most employers won't offer more money even if your worth it unless you ask for it.

Thanks Dave
I think it is sometimes hard to say exactly how much we get paid as seniors with a few notches on our belt. This is because some of us get paid more than our bosses. On that note some of our bosses have 1/4 of years experience and knowledge which is very frustrating at times but we smile on the inside knowing we get paid more for a good reason. From what I know locally good seniors start at 35 then upto 40 for the seasoned performers where I know of specialists who range 40 to 45 for key roles. I have noticed during my career the best pay rises come from changing companies (unfortunately). I hope other will contribute to this post. With the rate of increases in taxes and living expenses I expect big pay rises in the next few years as there has been a little stagnentation from the GFC to now and the chances of owning a house have dramatically decreased over the past ten years. We have performed from the start of our careers in order to be on a good rate in these later years and most of us feel totally ripped off.

Hi Dave.
generally supermarkets techs are a dime a dozen, for what ever reason which is beyond me. If you are scada and PLC literate you are in the top end. Usually supermarkets operators drive down the price they pay for services, they think that the world rotates around supermarkets so they can dictate the rules. WRONG.
Guess who makes all the dosh..., not the fridge techs.
Generally, give supermarkets a serious wide berth.
