Question. we do not want liquid coming back to the compressor right ? What is the differance if using 404A or 408A. when charging a system with these type refrigerants, we put it in as a liquid. Why then would liquid back to the compressor using these refrigerants harm it during use if you have to put it in as a liquid?

Because you should charge the liquid into the discharge side of the compressor circuit.

If adding it into the suction side you would regulate the liquid back to vapour before entry into the pipework.

Remember it has to leave the refrigerant bottle as liquid. What happens after that doesn't matter.

Liquid directly into the compressor means a dead compressor very quickly.

How do you charge into the discharge side when the compressor is running and it is at higher pressures than the bottle ? And if putting in thru suction side. how do you regulate the liquid back to vapor before entry ?

No way to charge into discharge side of compressor .... you have to connect your cylinder before evaporator ... liquid must pass evaporator to evaporate and thus you have gas in front of your compressor .... of course you must throttle valve on your cylinder what will ensure that all liquid will evaporate within evaporator ...

Charging through to discharge can only be done when vacuum of system has been completed. (after install or repairs). Liquid charging into low pressure side, if done near compressor, must be done SLOWLY, through manifold of gauges to allow liquid to boil off BEFORE it has a chance to enter the mechanical compression stage in compressor. Josip's description ^ will ensure this doesn't happen.. Mike.
