Excluding all the CCU options......if limiting the scheme to just DX splits, has anyone installed a Toshiba RAVSM1103ATE in a Comms Room? Go alright?

We need a small condenser and this 10kW Toshiba has a single fan. Sounds good physically, but not used them before. (I usually go for an RZQ Daikin.)

Interestingly, Toshiba offer 3yrs warranty even for the likes of me who do not have a Daikin D1 bravery badge.

I have the under ceiling units dotted all around the UK in server rooms. No bother.

Go for it, everything will be fine

trouble with splits is that with the low airflow, you get low Sensible heat ratios?

IE : a 10 KW small split might only have 3KW of sensible cooling. Thats not going to help your servers? Also an Air off of 4C can cause expansion issues in the racks?

I would say that though, cos GEA Denco Units are High Sensible units and about 98% Sensible heat ratios are not uncommon on 10KW Units? :D

Toshiba has a setting whereby the shr is altered. Ask the distributor and they will send you the details. A 7kw standard split becomes a 9kw with 7.5 kw sensible..

Do you mean a 10kw standard spilt becomes 7.5kw sensible?

Compare the price for the equivalent Sanyo unit .
Identical to the tosh and usually cheaper all the same functions and the doc. posted by Richard will do the same thing.

The sanyo's are good for mix+matching....ie you could have a 12.5kW Room Unit and a 10kW outdoor, which helps some more with the computer room environment.

However, 10kW Sanyo has two fans though, if I recall, whereas this particular Tosh has one -- the required feature (mm).

Correct I remember my Tosh rep mentioning this a while ago!

I don't think ceiling splits are the right solution for data centers. And still, even though sensible cooling can be increased with the tricks shown, the latent heat removal is way too high.
Also, the universally accepted data center room temperature is 24°C, not 27°C, even though I must admit ashrae is trying to enlarge the accepted temperature envelope.

It's a comms room not a data centre which may expalian why splits are being specified.

24C for a server room, better tell my ISP, he keeps his in what is basically a walk in fridge, at around 18C. At least the low temp allows the unit to take 15 mins to restart when the power fails and the 60kVA genset takes up the feed to the building and the UPS without the servers getting warm at all.

I never have any problem with Toshiba. We have installed many splits in comms rooms and never had any bother.
