Hello,
I am trying to figure out what kind of compressor I need to use for my refrigeration system. The evaporator in my system is a counterflow concentric tube heat exchanger. In the outside tube will be water that I am trying to cool. In the inside tube, of course, is the refrigerant.

Details of system:
-water inlet temp: 22*C
-desired water outlet temp: 3*C
-mass flow rate of water: 0.1 kg/s
-specific heat capacity water: 4210 J/kg*k

And for a counterflow concentric tube heat exchanger:
-q=(0.1 kg/s)(4210 J/kg*k)(22*C-3*C) = 8000 watts

So I need to remove 8000 watts from the water for my desired flow rate and temps. How should I go about calculating and selecting the appropriate compressor for my system?
Thanks.

For comp selection , following data in to be stated

cooling load : 8 kw
refrigerant : ............ ?
Evaporator temp : ......... ?? ( probaly ( - 2 ) deg c in your case
system condensing temp : .......... ???????????

Your comp vendor will select on the above info....... Again you need semi-hermetic / scroll etc to be specified

Your evaporating temp will be below 0°C, take that into consideration.
You want to add Glycol to the water to avoid freezing, that will change the required cooling capacity.

On the other hand, If you cant use Glycol, then you will have to add evaporator pressure regulator to avoid freezing. That might force you to use a larger evaporator and increase the water flow.

Hey w317chester

nice to see somone from the usa posting in Metric......

As the other guys have said, you need to feed these details into your local compressor supply shop, they should be able to select for you.

Do you have the other parts of your system already selected?
