Here is a question I asked my supplier. Why is there no receiver tanks added to the txv units they sell for HVAC application. I was told that they did not require one, the liquid just moved around inside the condenser. I find this statement problematic to say the least. This will affect sub cooling among other things. Add to that a 2speed unit and this can get more complicated. I am considering adding a tank on my personal unit to observe operational charcteristics. Any thoughts.

.

Quite a few AC systems use this method.
They oversize the cond and the liquid backs up there.
This ensures high subcooling values but mostly it is down
to cost. No receiver equals cheaper costs.

All the best

What is the main purpose of receiver ? if in your design you can be sure your liquid line is full
(special in small system ) so you do not need receiver.
but in large system it should be mounted and should have enough Volume when we want to collect all gas in receiver.
