Depends on what type of ants and which part of the world you live in. Pest control usually sorts them out.

Borax will work as a control, but you must find out how the ants are getting in and seal that up. Ants do not like mineral oil, spray that on the inside of the box before closing up ( use some spray can oil) and it will both make them stay away as well as keep the wiring and such from corroding.

Have a variety of ants in this part of the globe, including the ones that would eat my house if given a chance. They can fly in their early life cycle the buggers. Anyway, some info on your ants.http://www.ehow.com/how_4840546_rid-pharaoh-ants.html

Borax, more commonly used as a foot powder, or order boracic acid from the chemist for a small box, or contact an industrial chemical supplier for 50kg bags.
