A number of our engineers and contracts managers who are time served refrigeration engineeers have recently been exposed to a situation where electrical competancy (certification) has been questioned. Whilst no-one was exposed to risk and there is no question of competancy what are the minimum qualifications available and / or required to permit an individual to carry out the following tasks in order to satisfy legislation.

Please note this is all from an electrical perspective.

Air-conditioning / refrigeration / maintenance
Fault Diagnosis of Air-conditioning / refrigeration systems
Fault diagnosis / modification of remote panels
Fault diagnosis / modification of remote panels which include power distribution
Then apply live testing to all of the above
Any assistance on this matter would be appreciated.

Competency in the eyes of the IEE is having the relevant experience and knowledge.

You dont even need 17th edition, but getting insured without it can sometimes be troublesome....
