We recently installed a headmaster valve (LAC-5) in on an air cooled chiller (10 ton unit). It's in a location that's been seeing abnormally low ambient temps, which has been causing all sorts of problems, most notable when the unit kicks on after having been off for a while (like a slug of cold liquid flash freezing the water in the evaporator - not good ).
We don't usually mess with headmasters because most of the equipment we work on is in mild climate.
When we ran the unit after installing the valve, we were unable to get the head pressure up above 75-85 PSIG, and of course the suction stayed low - around 5 PSIG (this is a R407c unit). We ran the unit for 5 min or so (maybe it needs to warm up) no good.
We added more refrigerant - still nothing. The head pressure does not want to go up no matter what. We had higher head pressures with -20F on the condenser and no headmaster. Anyone seen this before?
