Evaporater icing up.....

Hello everyone, Long time lurker....first time poster...so take it easy....:)

I understand TX valve superheating and the reason for it.

My question is ....Would an incorrect superheat setting cause icing up of the evaporater...???

Yes-not enough refrigerant getting to the evap could cause freezing

I find this question hard to answer due to not enough information.

Do you have defrost capability on this evaporator? Room Target Temp? Suction Pressure? How is this evap fed liquid?

It would depend on the application.
If you are talking A/C then I would doubt it. Assuming a fully charged system, an incorrect superheat setting (at design conditions) would either result in a flooded evap and liquid returning to the compressor with little or no superheat or evap starvation and a high superheat. As A/C is designed to evaporate around 5C there wouldn't be much sign of frosting. A gas shortage, or restriction would result in evap frosting.

If you are talking refridge then the evaporating temp will be below freezing point anyway and the coil will frost. The superheat setting will determine either a fully frosted evap or a partially frosted evap.
