I took delivery of the above a while ago.The top and rear of the unit including condenser grille are covered with a thin plastic under which is a layer of foam. The whole thing appears to be moulded to the unit.I queried this with Electrolux, asking if it was insulation or packaging and they said to remove it,but I have my doubts. On the one hand it seems to be too permanent for packing, but the instruction manual does suggest cleaning the condenser grille with a brush. Can anyone throw any light on this please.
Thanks

Air needs to pass through/over the condenser.
Post a pic if you can so we can see exactly the covering.

Some manufacturers now wrap polythene over a product and then pack it. Because of the complex shapes of certain fragile parts and the difficulty in protecting them, they then use a small container of expansion foam which they break and drop into the packaging and allow the foam to expand and totally enclose the fragile parts. Maybe it could be this.

Apologys for not aknowledging your reply Chilliwilly,it got overlooked in the hunt for the digicam.I'm inclined to think that this could be the case.It might explain the depth of the foam.

This looks like normal insulation at the back of an intergrated fridge to me. I think that it could have been put together better. In the first photo you've got on the left the compressor then a condensor fan and on the right the condensor.
The other photo shows that someone has dug out the insulation. If thats how it came to you it has to be sent back

Thank you for the information. The piece taken out was done by me,following the e-mail from electrolux saying to remove it.I stopped because it didn't seem correct.Hence this query. If I understand you correctly, this is standard for an integrated fridge and the condenser is cooled by a fan therefore the foam should not be removed.

If the fridge works ok then try and refill the hole that you dug out with expanding foam, i get it from b&Q and use it to refill insulation that i have to dig out when i change sensors on candy fridge freezers

Great minds,I had a similar idea earlier.I fired the fridge up earlier, and there was a definite breeze around the bottom corner. This would bear out your observation about the fan.I'll fire it up in anger at the week end and see what occurs.

Many thanks for your help with this
